Fractal

A fractal is a term coined by Mandlebrot in the 70's. It refers to a pattern that is self-repeating, if you look at it's edge it has the same pattern as the whole and as you zoom in or out the pattern repeats on itself infinitely. The fractal pattern came from mathematics - it's not just an image. It's a representation of a pattern that can exist on repeat no matter what scale you look at it you see that same pattern - and that's true in mathematics as well. Therefore a fractal represents a piece of information that provides a path between scales.
